Another use netro sprite

I would like to know if I can use one of the channels that I am not using for irrigation, to be able to use it as a timer to turn the lights on and off in my garden

I would think yes. I looked up the specs on a Rainbird DV valve. 

Solenoid coil resistance: 38 Ohms
24 VAC 50/60Hz (cycles per second) solenoid power requirement: 0.450A inrush current, 0.25A holding current

Since the controller provides 24VAC and the appropriate current, you should be able to source a relay that can be controlled by this same electrical parameters and be able to switch the lights that you are using AC or DC.
