Sprite works with Google WiFi. Please check the SSID and password and see if they contain special symbols. You might also want to try a guest network.

After further troubleshooting with Netro's help I did have a WiFi password that contained special characters (%+?\_) and connecting to a guest network with an alphanumeric SSID and password and it works great now.  Remember to power cycle the device between attempts!
